I saw "THE" match!!!
Despite constant interruptions from Khusboo(Jackpot) and Ramya Krishnan(that gawdawful apology of a game show - Thanga vaettai), I managed to watch most part of the historic run "kumbh mela" yesterday. WOW!!! I was blown away by the sheer delight of watching the Aussies get creamed. The proteas gave back as good as they got and how?!!? Initially on flipping channels, ESPN showed SA score as 15-1 and 420 to make in 48.3 overs (or so). I thought that the score of 240 has been wrongly mentioned as 420, but as Smith and Gibbs kept making the runs, the score was decremented to 419, 415 and so on. That was when I realised that finally, the 400 run barrier in ODIs was breached and more importantly, that the Proteas were in no mood to roll over and play dead. Smith and Gibbs kept up a steady pace and the South African's progress was spectacular. 250+ around the half-way mark; 310+ around 35 overs. At the 40 over mark, the chase was looking the same as any "normal" high-scoring one day game. 90 odd runs from 60 balls. van der Wath stuck some audacious powerful shots, and Boucher kept his cool to see SA home. Credit should also go to Ntini for not trying anything stupid and instead giving the strike to Boucher. At the end of it all was Ponting's gesture of letting Gibbs relish the MoM award alone.
ODI cricket at its best.
