Vana Vani days

Finished reading Chetan Bhagat's "Five point someone" recently. Brought back memories of my own IIT Madras days ;D The 12 years spent in Vana Vani, nestled cozily in IIT Madras' woody environs, have left fond memories imprinted on my mind. Sometimes, I feel sad about not having all the fun that I could have possibly had, because of my inclination to get lost in the textbooks. When reading about "Kumaon hostel", "faculty housing" etc., vivid images of IIT Madras' administrative block, structural engineering block, aerospace engineering, OAT, NCC, and yes, Ocean Engineering (where we regularly stopped by for glasses of cold water) and Akshay canteen, all came rushing into my mind. Even though there are certain bitter memories (like getting slapped by Gowrishankar in SAC during Vanfest '94 and the subsequent drop in acads) also bubbled up, those was quickly replaced with the thoughts of all the fun that we had cycling back home. I long to go back there, but as was mentioned in someone else's blog post about getting a rude shock travelling in a PTC bus, I too don't want to get shocked by the changes that the place would have inevitably undergone :(
